2024 Mustang GT 0-60 Time: The Real Dark Horse
Overview
The 2024 Mustang GT 0-60 time is 4.3 seconds, with a quarter mile time of 12.6 seconds. While Ford rightly receives praise for continuing to sell a V8 muscle car equipped with a manual transmission, some people might be disappointed by the fact that the 2024 Mustang GT 0-60 time isn't any better than the previous generation's GT.
What is the 2024 Mustang GT?
2024 marks the first year of Mustang's 7th generation, and with it comes a redesigned Mustang and a more powerful engine. While the base level GT now offers 480 horsepower, the Premium trim - the version tested by reviewers - comes with a performance exhaust that boosts the horsepower up to 486.
The improved engine is an enhanced version of the Coyote engine that has been in use since 2011. Ford attributes the increased horsepower to an 'innovative dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design', which minimizes induction loss by enabling higher air flow rates.
The design has been updated as well, with the GT being differentiated from the EcoBoost by larger, more aggressive grille openings.
2024 Mustang GT 0-60 Time analysis
Motortrend's review of the manual GT Premium has it achieving 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, the same time as the 2018 GT Premium. A 10-speed automatic variant hasn't been tested, although it is likely faster, as seen with the Dark Horse.
Speaking of the Dark Horse, while it is advertised as an improved version of the GT, it doesn't accelerate much faster, which given its hefty price tag, makes the GT look great in comparison. So while the 2024 Mustang GT 0-60 time might be a let-down, it proves that the GT offers 95% of the Dark Horse's acceleration at 75% of the cost.
However, it still doesn't have the best price-performance ratio in the Mustang lineup; the Ecoboost Mustang wins that award with a 4.5 seconds 0-60 time and an affordable $30,000 price tag. It does only offer a 10-speed automatic transmission however which could be seen as a dealbreaker.
Verdict
While the 2024 Mustang GT 0-60 time doesn't move the storied car's acceleration forward, it does solidify the GT as the wiser option to choose among the manual-equipped Mustangs.
