2024 Acura MDX 0-60 Time, MPH & Specs

By: Max F. Arellano / February 29, 2024

The Acura MDX 0-60 time has improved substantially over the years, and while it might be slower than some of its rivals, it still offers well above average performance for an SUV, with the Type S trim accomplishing the feat in under 6 seconds.

However if you want a luxury SUV and speed is one of your top concerns, there are some better options.

2024 Acura MDX 0-60 Time, Specs, & Top Speed

The standard model Acura MDX 0-60 time is 6.1 seconds when averaged across reports from both Motor Trend and Car and Driver.

The Acura MDX 0-60 time drops further to just 5.7 seconds in the Type S edition, which has a top speed of 112 mph.

You might be compelled to upgrade to the Type S for its improved acceleration, but there are a couple of reasons why you shouldn't. Before delving into that though, we should cover the main features of the Acura MDX trims.

Engine Specifications

  • Standard Powertrain: The base model continues to use the 3.5L V6 engine, delivering a harmonious blend of power and fuel efficiency. This engine produces 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that the MDX moves with authority and grace.
  • Type S Variant: Elevating the performance, the Type S is equipped with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine, offering 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth shifts and rapid acceleration.

Drivetrain and Handling

Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system remains a highlight, available across the lineup. This advanced system enhances traction and improves handling, ensuring that the MDX delivers a confident and engaging driving experience in various conditions.

Features and Technology

The 2024 MDX is laden with an array of features and technologies that affirm its status as a luxury SUV.

  • Interior Comfort: The cabin offers spacious seating for up to seven passengers, with premium materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Advanced noise cancellation techniques ensure a serene driving experience.
  • Technology: Equipped with the latest AcuraLink infotainment system, the MDX offers a user-friendly interface, smartphone integration, and a premium audio system. The digital cockpit includes a customizable gauge display and a large central touchscreen.
  • Safety: AcuraWatch, Acura's suite of advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies, provides comprehensive coverage with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking system.

Is the Acura MDX 0-60 Time Good for its Price?

A 0-60 time in the low 6's is good for any SUV, however, you do have to consider the price. At ~$50,000 for the base trim, it costs 10k more than a Mazda CX-5 and is only a few fractions of a second faster, however, you could say it's unfair to compare it to one of the best, affordable SUVs, especially when that isn't its direct competition. Within its segment, it is generally cheaper than its rivals, while offering similar acceleration. For example, the Genesis GV80 is significantly more expensive and has an identical 0-60 time to the MDX.

If you're unsatisfied with the base trim and want something faster, you might consider upgrading to the Type S, however, it is significantly more expensive and certainly not fast enough to justify the price increase if speed is your primary concern.

In that case, you should consider the BMW X5 xDrive50e, which is almost a full second and a half faster than the Type S and has a similar price.
